MI-9s and Hound Dog Gulag
Twister has caught a glimpse of it too, noting that it was white and blue. I saw a white underbelly and a hint of blue. He had it barreling at nearly full tilt. They are not as fast as our OH-60s and 53s, but can move pretty quick in their own right.
Speaking of Blue, that Blue Dog of mine is still in heat. Apparently she wasn't quite there yet. So, she's spending quite a bit of time in the Gulag.
The quickest helicopter I've seen, I'd say is the Brit's Puma. It can gain speed rather quickly. And, don't be fooled, the Chinook can move at speeds around 200MPH.
I don't know where this MI-9 came from baby, but it's blades moved round and round...The first person to figure out what lyrics I just mocked wins a free subscription to Appalachian Patria.

the way the flexible blades of the helicopter droop, it makes it look sad.
I use to get helicopters flying over all the time as I live near the hospital, but after a crash a few months ago in Grand Rapids, they did an audit of all the landing pads in the area and ours was one hospital whose pad didn't make the grade. They now have to drive you from the hospital to the airport! But they're planning to build a new hospital in two years so that will all change (hopefully).
milico de mierda hojala toda la gente como vos que le gusta la guerra se muera ahogada por un pene del tamaño de un cañon!
no podes pensar que la guerra esta bien apesar de las sircunstancias que se den!
John Lennon . . . maybe . . . Bill. . . no habla
Man, Sage, a bad pad? Hopefully, the air port ain't too far off.
They, the MI series, are not the prettiest birds. Nothing sexy about them. They do have a sad appearance. I never thought about it. But, they are effective helicopters. Someone out there with the revenue thought so.
Nark, me no habla Es Spanol. Gracious. Now, if you speak English, I'll try to get that translated and get back to you.
Elvis maybe?
I just saw that helicopter from a distance at work. It was flying towards Wal Mart, the center of Transylvania County.
What's it doing flying around? Are you near an army base?
I like the transition from helicopter to dog in heat and back to helicopter.
Ah...Love and Rockets. I have to get that song from iTunes.
Murf, glad you like my transformation. No, I'm not near a base, and allot flys across here because it's "interesting" air space. It's apparently a private individual. I'm not sure where I could find out.
Couldn't you see them flying along nap of the earth, listening to Love and Rockets, just grooving to the music?
I was trying to ignore the dog-in-heat transition . . . it is part of my country upbringing to ignore dogs in heat in polite society, but I am totally inorant of the M1-17 Hip. I know it is a helicopter. It looks Russian to me, and that tells how much I know. Its speed is discussed in relation to other helicopters with the British Puma seemingly being the fastest military helicopter, but how is this helicopter used. It looks like a big fat tadpole . . . again my country upbrining . . . is it basically a troop carrier or is it used for med-evac? Sorry for my ignorance. Just a side story . . . at Fort Knox, Col Winter got us to an M1A1 Abrams tank . . . and we became somewhat familiar with it. I know this is "ancient" history, but during the Gulf War the army really surprised me with equipment I knew nothing about . . . some of the Abrams capabilities and missels. Bill
I just want to point out that a free subscription to anything is usually worth exactly what you pay for it.
We used to carry SH-60 helos on our ships but, as a guy who broke anything capable of mechanical flight into either the category of targets or of friendlies, I never worried too much about the particulars.
Our close in weapons system (aka Phalanx... CIWS... gatling gun) took care of leakers, which are the missiles that have penetrated both our missile and big gun defenses. The vampire (navy lingo for ya)had to be closing the ship and be at a high rate of speed. Because of those requirements, we seldom got to really test it. You had to drag a target on a cable behind a jet, making sure the gun acquired the towed object and not the plane, and for some reason the jet jocky's balked at us doing such auto engages with live ammo. The sissies.
Anyhow, we would sometimes use the helos to run straight at the ship going as fast as they could, all shimmying and shaking and dropping small parts into the ocean. Still, they could seldom get the speed to transition into track, and could never maintain it if they did.
No reason for that story other than it has a helo in it.
A dog in heat is OK. A cat in heat caterwauls like a mofo. Dang irritating.
Either Leonard Cohen or Bananarama... now send me my subscription!
OK, sorry to take so long...
Bill, It's a GP helicopter, capable of some cargo. The MI-17 is nearly the size of a CH-53, not quite...Closer to the CH-47 Chinook, but not nearly the lift.
Same as with the MI-9, a bigger Huey, if you will. Russians didn't do petite helicopters. Well, even the Hop looks pudgy. 've seen it from a distance twice more...Hey! You'll don't think some Russian Troops got their Georgias confused? Mexican troops did confuse an imaginary line, but that has been happening for some years.
I can't get why the pilots wouldn't do the live fire, Ed. Come on, let's get realistic. Vampire...Sounds like an old girl friend...Leakers...Like the plumbing in an old trailer. But, your going to have to do without the subscription, it was Love and Rockets, come on, you being a Squid Electronic Spear Chucking Guy, you think you'd be into the Rockets and Love thing. Agh, what the hell, check your mail box...There's plenty of copies laying around.
Yeah, I knew it was Luv & Rokits, it was at the bottom of the post. But how often do you get to reference the iconic Mr. Cohen? And I only threw in Bananarama cuz it is so much fun to write. And say.

Ed rather...And Bananarama was cute too. Allot more than Cohen, that's for sure.
I must have Bill on the brain...Sorry about that. I'll just delete that one alltogether.
