Appalachian Patria

Appalachian Intellectual. To me that means plain thinking. I am A Non Commissioned Officer in the Army Reserves. Let me say...My views expressed here are mine and not those of The U.S. Army, Army Reserve or my fellow brethren in The National Guard. This is entirely Sua Sponte. This is My Thinking. I'm single and in my mid 30's. Politicaly, I'm a Libertarian. (Again, Sua Sponte.I do not represent the Libertarian Party.)I love my native Appalachia, Rock n Roll and...I love God.

Location: Brevard, North Caroilina

I started blogging for two reasons. I was concerned about the changes to the area I live in, Southern Appalachia and I was about to go to the war. I was in Iraq in 06 and 07 and now Kuwait in 11 and 12. Blogging was a means of documenting my experiences and hoping it would help gain clarity. I don't feel that way about it any more. It's said people write blogs because they are frustrated, that's why people read them too. That makes us sound apocalyptic. Are we? Let it be said, what I say here is of my own thinking. This is entirely Sua Sponte and not an official representation of the U.S. Military or the U.S. Government as a whole.

It's Started

A few minutes ago I went out on the front porch to cool off. Inside it was the sounds of Son Volt, but once I was on the porch it was Katydids. Off some where's in South Carolina there was lightening. I've not heard them until tonight.

Here I am . . . scared about somethin' I am not quite sure about . . . it's what I get for lettin' my son watch a Stephen King movie with me the other night. I am lookin' for an exclamation mark for "It's Started" amd thinking what's started and finally figuring out what I think the Ap means . . . summer has started maybe . . . the lightening has been fierce around Columbia . . . as good as any summer thunder storms and to hear the Katydids . . . well, there you have it.

I meant to ask my sister before she went back to the Nawth . . . to New Jersey if she enjoyed the storm that came as she prepared to leave . . . the summer storms are the South . . . perhaps not as great a storm as a monsoom but a sign of God's blessing . . . my daughter called me wishing she had an old fashioned screened porch . . . to sit and watch the rain that came on that afternoon and into the night in a fine drizzle of southern slowness to abate the heat of the day and cool the night as its lightening flashed across the sky. There is great beauty in the mercies of God's storms in the South that make it a special place and the mountains His special footstool. I hope I didn't miss what you meant, but it is what I thought. I don't do this often, but at the bottom of this quarter's post are a couple of navy stories from Navy Times. Thought you might enjoy some squid talk.
