Appalachian Patria

Appalachian Intellectual. To me that means plain thinking. I am A Non Commissioned Officer in the Army Reserves. Let me say...My views expressed here are mine and not those of The U.S. Army, Army Reserve or my fellow brethren in The National Guard. This is entirely Sua Sponte. This is My Thinking. I'm single and in my mid 30's. Politicaly, I'm a Libertarian. (Again, Sua Sponte.I do not represent the Libertarian Party.)I love my native Appalachia, Rock n Roll and...I love God.

Name:
Location: Brevard, North Caroilina

I started blogging for two reasons. I was concerned about the changes to the area I live in, Southern Appalachia and I was about to go to the war. I was in Iraq in 06 and 07 and now Kuwait in 11 and 12. Blogging was a means of documenting my experiences and hoping it would help gain clarity. I don't feel that way about it any more. It's said people write blogs because they are frustrated, that's why people read them too. That makes us sound apocalyptic. Are we? Let it be said, what I say here is of my own thinking. This is entirely Sua Sponte and not an official representation of the U.S. Military or the U.S. Government as a whole.

Just for grins

I was about to post the other night, then had a sudden change of plans. I'm alive, I'm kicking. About everything else is too.

Here, listen to this, it was part of my post. Learn the words and sing them over and over. When people ask if that's the only words you know...Tell them yeah, and it ain't none of their business. Then grin real big.

I Understand Now - Patterson Hood

". . . without a trace . . . I'm not sure if I understnd it then . . . I understand now," but I ain't grinnin' . . . I'm trying to laugh . . . I'm thinking about Carley Simon's words "you think this song is about you" and tryin' not to think that . . . glad you are kickin'. Take care Bill (but it is . . .the song I mean ain't it. . . laughter can be heard in the hills . . . . )

Wasn't that song about Mick Jagger? Or someones vain X significant other?

I am not sure, but it is rumored to haved been about Warren Beatty. It might have been about Jagger as it is the same difference . . . er, ego. Carley Simon is, I believe, to have sold the secret of that person's identity for charity. I think she was going to tell the identity at her death . . . I don't know who it was . . . or is, but the song as played struck me that way and could be headed under the topic of "live and learn" or "we all get bit on the ass at some point" as an old country and western song I have lived in real time . . . my significant X used 20,000 dollars of a clients money and is now an x-lawyer too . . . as the song says, "I'm not sure if I understand it then . . . I understand now." I am goin' listen to "my" song all night. As I said, "laughter can be heard in the hills . . . ." It beats cryin'. I am sorry it happened, but it did. I need a dog . . . about five of them preferrably one of them North Carolina hounds. Take care. We'll just sit and bark at the moon all night. Bill

Yeah, didn't she understand, only Congress can blow $20,000 of a clients money and get away with it...And, think the song is about them....

Get a Boykin Spaniel...

Boykins are just too happy . . . I can't deal with all that happiness . . . (laughter). The Germans have their rotweilders, shepards, dobermans and such and wanted to conquer the world . . . South Carolina for all her mistakes has the Boykin Spaniel and having learned a lesson in the Waaaaaaaaaaaaaar only wants to go hunting. The Boykin is a great dog. Bill

No, A Boykin is not a war dog. Honestly, I've never been around one. I've seen them, but not spent time around them.

OH! I've got a new Cur pup. She's a mix of Curs, with some Plott thrown in. It's more or less a line a fellar is doing down in Ga. She's just a tiny thing now.

I think what I enjoyed most about the clip was how much Bill enjoyed it.

I read that Purple Rain (by Prince) was celebrating it's 25th year anniversary. While that has nothing to do with Bill, or you, I did enjoy the flick enough to go see it 8 (yes, 8) times with my first wife.

Dialing it in from Houston tonight. I thought they'd have better radio stations, like they do in Dallas.

Ed, I ain't seen it once. I say that with great pride. Fortunatley, my X was into A River Runs Through It.

I lost my station. THey broadcast out of Athens on 103.7, then did a double freq on 100.1, for better reception in Athens...Last week they abandonded the stonger 103.7, so I no longer hear them. That's where I discovered great bands like DBT, The Whigs, and singer/song writers like Vic Chesnutt.

Ed, I wasn't enjoyin' it. I was havin' a flashback and tryin' to keep from cryin' about a lesson that never took . . . not well enough anyway. The Plott has a little German in it . . . I think its a lot tougher than a Boykin . . . a beautiful, happy usually a dark red dog of medium size . . . one that loves the water and is a good retriever. Bill

A comment in transition to another post . . . did you get caught in the recent flooding in the Fort Knox area . . . Louisville got caught hard in the kind of rain that will cause havoc in a mountain cove. Bill
