Appalachian Patria

Appalachian Intellectual. To me that means plain thinking. I am A Non Commissioned Officer in the Army Reserves. Let me say...My views expressed here are mine and not those of The U.S. Army, Army Reserve or my fellow brethren in The National Guard. This is entirely Sua Sponte. This is My Thinking. I'm single and in my mid 30's. Politicaly, I'm a Libertarian. (Again, Sua Sponte.I do not represent the Libertarian Party.)I love my native Appalachia, Rock n Roll and...I love God.

Name:
Location: Brevard, North Caroilina

I started blogging for two reasons. I was concerned about the changes to the area I live in, Southern Appalachia and I was about to go to the war. I was in Iraq in 06 and 07 and now Kuwait in 11 and 12. Blogging was a means of documenting my experiences and hoping it would help gain clarity. I don't feel that way about it any more. It's said people write blogs because they are frustrated, that's why people read them too. That makes us sound apocalyptic. Are we? Let it be said, what I say here is of my own thinking. This is entirely Sua Sponte and not an official representation of the U.S. Military or the U.S. Government as a whole.

I Suck At Hackie Sack

Me, Twister and a buddy of his, "The Robster" went to a Morrocon Resteraunt during Bele Cher in Asheville this last weekend. You have to be carful having Sweet Tea in a Resteraunt not ran by Southerners. It may not be to your liking, but, it wasn't bad. We had a real sweet Waitress that was just plain pretty, poor girl, being from the Psuedo South*, said she liked Unsweetened Tea.We first stumbled around the street playing Hackie Sack and finished off with a show by The Drive By Truckers. I suck at Hackie Sack, but, we had fun with all of the differnet people coming up and playing with us for a few. DBT put on a great show, even if they didn't do any of the Gangstabilly and Pizza Deliverance stuff. As I was leaving after the Trucker's Show, I came across Brad, the drummer of the band. He's from the Upstate of SC and I was forced to live down there once. Turns out we went to High School together. He was a couple of years behind me. I went into a bit of a Giuerilla Add Campaign, but ptting a slip of paper with my Blog Address in tip jars. As I tod Brad, I don't mean to be a Publicity Whore, but, if your one of those folks showing up...dance around th campfire, hang around a while.

Oh, and your post reminded me that I should be listening to more "Pizza Deliverance".

"The Company I Keep" IS THE GREATEST SONG EVER.

(I start speaking in ALL CAPS the more I DRINK.)

I don't know if some of them were queer or not, but, I'm sure that plenty of them smoked dope...at least some. Twister picked up the game back in 3/75 from one of those West Coast boy's. I heard the new Dukes didn't have a Battle Flag on the Gen. Lee, if true that's practicaly Satanic.

I had 4 guys who worked for me that would start playing hacky sack whenever we had a work lull of 3 minutes or more. (And yes, this was when I was stationed in So Cal.) I never really saw the point, but they seemed to enjoy it immensley. I don't know if they were queer, either, but then we seldom asked and they seldom told.

Whenever I write the words "I suck" in a sentence, I don't bother to qualify it. There are so many possible endings to the sentence.

No, the Stars and Bars is still there, but there are definite attempts made to disassociate the heros from the cries racisim it provokes.

This ain't your TNT channel's Dukes of Hazzard, but then again, they didn't benefit from the GENIUS of Sean William Scott.

That's right. I said GENIUS.

That was my first time playing Hacky Sack. It would be good for a lull, something to keep you occupied. (and if you miss you've gotta do push ups) However I don'tunderstand the insistance on playing it during a stret festival, to each their own. Once you get into it it's fun. Guy's would stop and play for 2-3 minutes. As if they couldn't resist themselves. Usualy a girl would stand patiently behind. Only two girls played with us. It's pretty much a dudes affair.

If you are ever somewhere and there are too many guy's just throw a Hacky Sack out and as the guy's rush out to play and the girls sigh..."They alway's play that silly game"...you say real sauve like..."Yeah, it's such a silly game".

AI,
Your last comment is one of the reasons - it is a pleasure to come to this blog and read the "pearls" you give to the gentlemen. Especially the way you word your Southern charm.

I might just pass this on to a few young men, who I know, play this on occasion.
