Appalachian Patria

Appalachian Intellectual. To me that means plain thinking. I am A Non Commissioned Officer in the Army Reserves. Let me say...My views expressed here are mine and not those of The U.S. Army, Army Reserve or my fellow brethren in The National Guard. This is entirely Sua Sponte. This is My Thinking. I'm single and in my mid 30's. Politicaly, I'm a Libertarian. (Again, Sua Sponte.I do not represent the Libertarian Party.)I love my native Appalachia, Rock n Roll and...I love God.

Name:
Location: Brevard, North Caroilina

I started blogging for two reasons. I was concerned about the changes to the area I live in, Southern Appalachia and I was about to go to the war. I was in Iraq in 06 and 07 and now Kuwait in 11 and 12. Blogging was a means of documenting my experiences and hoping it would help gain clarity. I don't feel that way about it any more. It's said people write blogs because they are frustrated, that's why people read them too. That makes us sound apocalyptic. Are we? Let it be said, what I say here is of my own thinking. This is entirely Sua Sponte and not an official representation of the U.S. Military or the U.S. Government as a whole.

Vibrations

Folks, I've got things going on. I'm not putting out the post I wanted to this week.

Remember the silly I did, oh, a year or so ago with Videos. Well, I don't intend for this to be it.

The Whigs, Like A Vibration

Thank God I viewed that video from a computer without speakers. I can't imagine how bad that must be for people with speakers.

Actually it's not all that bad. Of course I lowered the sound before clicking on it. :-)

I'm . . . er, scared . . . to look . . . and er, listen after readin' the comments, but I'm curious . . . what's goin' on? I could make a song outa that . . . some good lyrics there. Bill

Yeah, Murf, it'll make the hounds holler.

That's the spirit, Gunner.

Bill, it's just a video of a garage band with a recording contract, it won't bite.

Tomorrow is the last day of Deer Season and there is a great big full moon hanging in the sky and a strong wind...That ain't vibrating.

Sage, maybe we should get her a set of earphones, so she could be sure to hear it.

Well, another day another dollar substituting . . . and on some poor teacher's computer looking for Appalachian Patria. It is foggy and wet and trying to be cold, and I was looking for the helpful warmth of mountain tales and stories of choppin' wood and wood stoves and the end of deer season, and I'm watchin' Vibrations . . . I must be desparate for the mountains. Reminds me of Fort Indian Town Gap. No matter what was going on at the Gap you could look up at the hills that lowered the Appalachian Train to its low point and then across the Gap to the north . . . like Fort Lewis and its Mount Ranier the department of the government in charge of ruining its beauty never could or rather never did . . . they are probably working on it . . . am I waiting for the bell to ring or what . . . the things I do to get Christmas money for grandkids.

Bill, I'm not doing much of blogging right now, though I'd like to. I had to spend the entire day at Boyden Arbor yesterday in what was supposed to be a quick trip there and back. I left here at 0350 and got home at 2010. I'll let you know about it soon enough. But, I've got things I gotta get done before I sit down in front of this thing to post without feeling like I'm not managing my time. I've got plenty to say. "Just 'cause I don't run my mouth don't mean I ain't got nothing to say"...

I am "workin" again today . . . substituing at a high school. I had some "free" time, and I went looking for Appalachian Patria. Again I had to go around the horn to get here. I went by "Ruminations from the
Distant Hills," and I found a great article on razorback hogs . . . might ought to have been called "pigs gone wild" a little bit like "girls gone wild," but a little better . . . more useful information. You had made a comment on one of the postings as had several of the folks who post here . . . neat. I thought you were busy . . . real busy. Take care. You will get a Christmas card this year . . . probably the one they, the post office . . . no street address (no comment), sent back last year . . . humor me. Take care. Bill

Some time ago I asked you what Sua Sponte meant because I had never heard it before. Today it was used twice in a newspaper article. Just thought you should know.

Ramblin' Ed, as near as I can figure it means "he did it himself," more of less and mostly less, and he is the only one responsible for it or what he did, as he is responsible for himself mostly all the time so when the Appalachianist goes off the trail so to speak it's his own responsibility and no one else's except you can always blame the rabbit. Now it's a leagal term mostly . . . but I'm pullin' Apps' leg a little bit to get him started real good on explanations when he gets back in gear, but I'm thinkin' that 30,000 are getting ready to go to Afganistan, and I am worried, but that's just me, and all I ever knew was "soooie sponte which is what I did at Sarah Shealy's barbeque place down at Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina, all you can eat.
