Another Post About The Rain
Not much to look at there but an open can of 'Coon bait. I'm on my Cracker kick and it's appropriate. It ain't raining outright, but an upper level low siting down towards Texas has been giving us rain off and on again. It goes from gloomy to rain back to gloomy. I've seen it stay cloudy for nearly a month before. Ont time I was out riding the kids up around the Davidson River while their Mother was at home wraping their Christmas presents. They had both fell asleep on me. Suddenly, I saw the moon and stopped to show them. They thought there was an animal in the road. Just hadn't seen clear skys in a while. Parts of theis county is considered tropical rain forest.
That Song brings back some memories...

What an interesting memeory . . . and a reminder . . . of how . . . we remember things that need to be remembered . . . the moon and clouds and things . . . their importance . . . and the children . . . all in an unryhmed poem of things that are remembered. Bill
Nice memories of the moon peaking through the clouds... That can of coon bait would be fine dining at some places--I had a plate of smelt last weekend--fried--looked like a heaping of sardines.
You'll don't get me wrong, when I talk of me riding the kids around, I'm not referring to the era of that song. In Cracker CD time lines, it would have been post Golden Age.
I was actually on the Laurel Fork part of the Fish Hatchery Road, or Gloucester Gap Road, you can call it either. It was right about th Searcy Creek Gate, it's a little narrow in there. The moon was real bright and it lit that little spot up. I stopped real quick and they were waking up. They kept asking me what it was, and I pointed at the moon. My Stepson looked at me and said he thought there was an animal in the road and they both fell back asleep.
Sage, smelt is a new one on me. Does i attract 'coons?
Well, so much for the moon . . . but I liked the description . . . when I was 16 I took care of a modest five acres of corn with an old white mule whom I have become fond of in memory that wasn't probably true at the time . . . rode her back to the house at lunch . . . there was nothing to eat except saltine crackers, sardines, and a can of stewed tomatoes . . . all of which made one of the best meals I have ever eaten . . . the fact that I was a 16 year old male who had been plowing all morning had a lot to do with it . . . otherwise I can resist sardines although on that day I would have fought the coon over the whole can . . . . ;>) Bill
I bought my grandson a picture book of moons . . . a book of Indian moons really, as the Indian tribes had a name for each of the moons in season. I can only remember two of them . . . the Hunter's moon and the Harvest Moon both of which come in the fall. It is a beautiful book of pictures of full moons . . . twelve moons in all some of which are haunting in their own halo and the mists through which they are seen . . . .
Bill if it would be any moon right now, it would be the pouring down rain moon. The skylight in my master bathroom has started to leak, as skylights do. After 10years, I can be glad. Rivers are out, the ground squishes, my building is leaking, right over the weight bench and on and on and on.
I fed the dogs and it felt like I had waded the river.
Master Sargeant Jerry Hardister called me . . . and I missed him. I need to find his number and call him . . . much as I missed your call when you came to Columbia. The breakfast I "owe" you, I bought for Randy and his wife when they came down. I was operated on this morning to put the power port in . . . to start the chemo . . . so far so good . . . I was out like a light . . . sounds like too much rain, but it hasn't gotten here yet . . . the clouds have come but not the rain . . . maybe tonight . . . keep the dogs fed. Bill
Dabgummit, Bill, I hate your having to go through all of that again. Hardister!? Boy, I've not heard tell of him in some time. Well, I hope he's fine.
Yeah, between here and Atlanta we had the water laid to us... I'ma let you finish, but New Orleans had the best flood of all time...
