Appalachian Patria

Appalachian Intellectual. To me that means plain thinking. I am A Non Commissioned Officer in the Army Reserves. Let me say...My views expressed here are mine and not those of The U.S. Army, Army Reserve or my fellow brethren in The National Guard. This is entirely Sua Sponte. This is My Thinking. I'm single and in my mid 30's. Politicaly, I'm a Libertarian. (Again, Sua Sponte.I do not represent the Libertarian Party.)I love my native Appalachia, Rock n Roll and...I love God.

Name:
Location: Brevard, North Caroilina

I started blogging for two reasons. I was concerned about the changes to the area I live in, Southern Appalachia and I was about to go to the war. I was in Iraq in 06 and 07 and now Kuwait in 11 and 12. Blogging was a means of documenting my experiences and hoping it would help gain clarity. I don't feel that way about it any more. It's said people write blogs because they are frustrated, that's why people read them too. That makes us sound apocalyptic. Are we? Let it be said, what I say here is of my own thinking. This is entirely Sua Sponte and not an official representation of the U.S. Military or the U.S. Government as a whole.

Darn Cold Day.

I'm not sure how cold it was this morning. I saw it was 13 (that's Farenheit you foreignors) in Asheville. Out here where I live it was colder. I don't think it got quite to 32. That's not so bad realy...It's just the stiff wind we had all day.
I payed a visit to my Grand Mother today. She's the only Grand Parent I have left. She talked more this time than most. She talked about the winters when she was growing up and how things were. It was the deppression and although my Great Grand Father was an excellant wood worker he could only manage so much. They would set a kettle of water by the fire place to keep it from freezing and it would be froze in the morning. I know that was not a daily thing, but, it shows that folks had to be tough.
I had supper at the Diner today. I sat and talked with a boy that's a Platoon Sgt in the National Guard, an MP. He's been twice activated in the Global War On Terrorism(GWOT) He's had both Afghanistan and Iraq. He was telling me some people from his unit have gone back over for a third tour with another nearby unit. Their getting that extra $1000 a month. All the same his unit got hit with High OPTEMPO and some managed to opt out. So as you can see it's somewhat of a mixed bag by that example.
I'm still figuring this Blog thing out. I want to post some links and there is no link feild. I'll get it figured out. I like this "script skin", it reminds me of The Decleration Of Independence, even if it doesn't have a link feild.
